Sandbanks and Studland
Sandbanks located on the south eastern tip of the harbour, is known as one of the most prestigious places to live has miles of sandy beaches and very safe swimming. A chain-ferry for cars, buses and foot passengers runs between Sandbanks and the stunning Studland Nature Reserve, leading to the World Heritage site of the Jurrassic Coast and the Purbecks.
Dramatic and photogenic, Corfe Castle sits over Corfe village, with its quaint houses, pubs and restaurants.
The coastal resort of Swanage has a Victorian pier, miles of sandy beaches and you can ride a steam train from the station to Corfe Castle through the countryside.
The Blue Pool and nature reserves of Arne and Durlston, with its Castle offering rooftop views, are nearby.
Further afield along the Jurassic Coast is Kimmerage bay, famous for the numerous fossils and fantastic rock pools which have been exposed by the erosion of the sea. Clavell Tower, built as a folly and now used for holiday accommodation, sits over the bay.
Tyneham, the ghost village
Tyneham lost village, Lulworth Castle and grounds, plus the spectacular Lulworth cove and Durdle Door, famous for their unique geology and stunning blue seas. Mini coach tours are available from Bournemouth during high season, for those who would like to view the gorgeous countryside en route.
A hidden gem near Weymouth, along the West Dorset Heritage Coast, is the Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens, with stunning view of the Jurassic Coast and the famous Chesil Beach. Abbottsbury Village and the famous Abbotsbury Swannery are nearby.
